Survey of Pingyang Tourism
Located in Southern Zhejiang Province and abundant in landscape and tourism resources, Pingyang County offers a panoramic view of mountains and seas.
South Yandang Mountain, a national scenic area and national 4A tourist attraction, is located in western Pingyang County, with an area of 169.27 square kilometers, and is 70 kilometers away from Wenzhou City. It’s comprised of five scenic spots: East and West Caves, Shuxi, Mingwang Peak, Rock City and Tengjiao—Red Rock Mountain. South Yandang Mountain is named after a shallow lake on its peak, a habitat of wild gooses in autumn. As one of the famous mountains in China’s South-East coastal areas, it has long been known as “a famous scenic spot in southeastern China and a holy land in Zhejiang”. Inside the mountain, ridges and peaks stand tall and upright, brooks and gullies crisscross, secluded caves gather densely, raging waterfalls fly like mad. Not only so, but there are lots of historic spots and unique folk customs. Inside the mountain, ridges and peaks stand tall and upright, brooks and gullies crisscross, secluded caves gather densely, raging waterfalls fly like mad. Not only so, but there are lots of historic spots and unique folk customs. The natural landscapes in the scenic spot look magnificent because of the mountains and look graceful because of the waters. The mountains are alive on account of the waters and the waters run around the mountains to contrast finely with each other. It’s well-known for such six natural sceneries as elegant brooks, secluded caves, steep peaks, beautiful rocks, silvery waterfalls and rocky chasms. Mr. Zhao Puchu, former president of The Buddhist Association of China, wrote a couplet to praise it, “autumn scenery is divided equally between the North and South Yandang Mountains, while high wind blows from the east forest to the west remotely.”
It’s said that “North Yandang Mountain is famous for its peaks while South Yandang Mountain is famous for its caves”. In fact, as far as natural landscape is concerned, there are “six landscapes” in South Yandang Mountain; as far as human landscape is concerned, there is “a galaxy of three religions”, rare in China. They are Huiwen Academy of Confucianism, Guanyin Cave of Buddhism, and Female Immortal Cave of Taoism. They stay in harmony and develop mutually.
In addition to those landscapes in Pingyang, there are also national classic red tourism attraction, Former Site of South Zhejiang (Pingyang) anti-Japanese Base, a demonstration base of National Education in Patriotism, World Biosphere Reserves, National Marine Natural Reserves, Nanji Island—one of the top ten beautiful islands in China, and Shunxi Ancient Architectural Complex—national key culture relic protection site. Beautiful natural landscapes and outstanding human sceneries are unique tourism resources in Pingyang.
